Inspired by the government’s initiative of being self reliant or Atmanirbhar , Fiontrai – The Entrepreneurship cell of Deshbandhu college collaborated with Edudictive and organised a three day Forum. The event included a three day series of seminars where many renowned speakers from various industries spoke on the theme of AtmaNirbhar Bharat.
They emphasised on the importance of being self Reliant and shared their thoughts on how youth can contribute to the government’s initiative and help India achieve its goal of being Atmanirbhar or Self Reliant. They motivated the students to take small steps and actively participate in the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign.
Here is a sneak peak into one of our founder’s, Ms. Nikita Mehta’s , journey through Fiontrai.
Thought behind FIONTRAI
When we got admission into college. There were only 2-3 societies that were active i.e. dance society, Dramatics and debating society.
These societies required those skills that were somehow curriculum based and were majorly practiced in schools. But in real life there are various other skills that are required for earning well rather than these.
Therefore we need more people in our society who start their own work and create employment opportunities for others as well.
However, there is no curriculum or way through which these skills can be developed through the process of education.
So, we need a platform where students can realise their true potential in business skills and can polish those skills. E-cell was created to create a platform for students to develop skills that are required for various career prospects.
Plans to carry out our operations
The first thing we needed to do after the formation of E-cell was to make students aware about its existence and explain them the purpose for which it was formed.
We as a team of 6 members (Parthh, Anirudh, Nikita, Dikshant, Prashant, Shubham) started pitching about e-cell in each and every course so that every student gets a chance to gain those skills.
Initially the plan was to select and a create a small team for efficient working of e-cell but later the motive was to allow every student who is interested to participate and learn how things worked.
How were the plans implemented?
Initially the main aim was to make maximum students aware about the society. For that pitching was not enough. So the first plan was to create a core team and organise the inaugural fest with lucrative prizes so that maximum students participate in the event and get to know about the working of e-cell.
Further we decided to recruit mentors that will help other students who registered to learn new skills.
Hardships we faced while working
First of all it was difficult to explain students the meaning of entrepreneurship. Very few were aware of this term.
The second most difficult task was to manage funds for the working of e-cell. Initially funds provided by college authorities were very low as they doubted our long term existence.
The third major hardship was to start a startup where all students will get a chance to work. With lot of ideas and researches it was very difficult to choose one because of lack of funds and choosing which was well-rounded. At that phase everyone learnt how practical world is very much different from what we learnt in academics.
Failures encountered
Entrepreneurship is all about how you convert our failures into opportunities. I would not say failures but we did lots of mistakes whether in startup or working of e-cell from which we learnt a lot. That was the time when we realised that experience really matters.
Vision for Society
I would really dream of e-cell creating the whole set of curriculum where students get experience and required exposure so that they are completely ready for their career.
We aim that under e-cell maximum students get opportunity to think of their own ideas and convert them into a full fledge business. We want that all the students of the college get something worthy to learn from e-cell.
“You have to see failure as the beginning and the middle but never entertain it as the end”
BWALK, the annual fest of Fiontrai, the entrepreneurship cell of Deshbandhu college was organised recently on 11th and 12th March,2019.
There were three events in total that were organised during the two day fest.
The event on day one started with opening ceremony followed by two events that were-
The Rolling Roulette
The Rush Hour Both the events were really exciting and a total fun. The Rolling Roulette gave a casino feel with virtual money involved and The Rush Hour was kind of a treasure hunt cum skill test event. In this event there were 5 spots all around the college campus and the contestants were given 7 commodities from which they had to guess 5 commodities through the clues given to them and show their marketing skills at each spot and sell the commodity for the highest price possible. In total the event was fun and created a business environment among the participants and gave them a sense of time management with the limited time to sell each commodity.
Day two consisted of a single event which was – YOU KNOW NOTHING, A Game Of Thrones Quiz. It was totally inspired and based on the famous web series- Game Of Thrones. It checked the knowledge of the participants of the subject matter if the series and also their memory to retain and remember the plots in the series.
